Dominant Year for Sunshine Coast Wave Premier Men

Updated: Apr 14

What a season it’s been for the Sunshine Coast Wave Premier Men's Team.

To look back on a year where the team claimed the 2025 F-League competition, lifted the trophy in the Qld Futsal Cup Knockout competition, and then backed it up by winning the 2026 Gold Coast International Cup is something truly special. Three major titles. One dominant group. A season that will be remembered for a long time!

But what makes it even more meaningful isn’t just the silverware — it’s the consistency, the standards, and the culture that drove it. Week after week, the team showed resilience, composure, and a relentless hunger to improve. Big moments were embraced, not feared. One of the most rewarding parts of 2025 was blooding eight of our Youth Men into the senior squad. In a season of high stakes and high expectations, these young players didn’t just make up the numbers — they contributed, competed, and proved that the future of the club is in very good hands. Success is even more powerful when it’s sustainable, and this year showed that our pathway is working.

The impact extended beyond club success too. Five Wave Men earned the honour of representing Queensland at the National Futsal Championships — a testament to the strength of our program. Watching the QLD Men's team finish Runners Up after a sudden death penalty shootout was heartbreaking, but it also showed the calibre and character of the players competing on the national stage. Numerous of our Youth Men also represented Queensland in the Youth Men's Division at the National Futsal Championships 2026.

And to top it off, Benjamin Bordin being crowned the 2025 “Football Queensland Futsal Player of the Year” by Football Queensland was the perfect individual recognition in a season built on collective excellence. A huge achievement and thoroughly deserved.

This year wasn’t just about winning trophies. It was about setting a benchmark. It was about pride within our Club, belief in each other, and raising the standard of futsal on the Sunshine Coast.

History made. Standards raised. And the best part? This group is still young and hungry. A huge congratulations to Wave Men’s Captain Connor Demerutis on his selection in the Futsalroos squad for the ASEAN Futsal Championships 2026 in Thailand. After an outstanding year of futsal, Connor’s national call-up is a well-deserved reward for his leadership and performances. The team faced strong competition against Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand, narrowly missing out in a thrilling 4–3 semi-final against the Thai's. Australia went on to finish fourth after a hard-fought playoff against Vietnam. An incredible achievement on the international stage—well done, Connor! Fellow teammates Benjamin Bordin & younger brother Maxx Demerutis were also named in the 30 player Futsalroo Squad and were on standby for a late call up due to injury or player unavailability.
